Hand Rejuvenation

Hands can often be a telling indication of a person’s age.  Besides genetics, hand appearance can be influenced by sun damage, vocation, hobbies, and how they have been cared for.  Youthful hands are soft with a smooth texture, even pigmentation and plump healthy looking skin.

Hand rejuvenation can include several procedures including manicures, fillers, fat grafting, skin peels, laser and active skin care regimens.  Some doctors have even removed veins on the backs of the hand, too. However, one must consider that these veins may be needed for intravenous access in unforeseen illness in future years, so I do not recommend this procedure.

Approach to Beautiful Hand

  • Avoid sun
  • Wear protective gloves when gardening or working with chemicals or harsh detergents
  • See your physician to evaluate for sun damage and precancerous or cancerous lesion
  • A course of topical 5FU (Efudex) can remove precancerous lesions which       often appear as red scaly spots
  • Use daily moisture replenishing cream or ones containing silicone, especially if your hands are in water frequently
  • Lumiquin from Revision, used nightly, can help lighten pigmentation and restore youthful skin quality. It contains antioxidants, moisturizers and botanical skin lighteners
  • Consider a chemical peel to help revise texture, remove sun damage and lighten brown discoloration
