Upper Abdominoplasty

Upper Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is a very common plastic surgery procedure to remove excess

abdominal skin and fat and tighten the abdominal wall. The procedure works well

as a full tummy tuck in which the skin between the navel and pubic area is removed

and the entire abdominal wall tightened from the ribs to the pubic area. Or in a mini

tummy tuck removing excess lower abdominal skin.

Sometimes the lower abdomen is tight and it is only the skin between the navel and

the crease under the breasts that is loose. Instead of pulling the skin down, the

excess skin is pulled upwards. One would not want to place a scar across the central

abdomen, so in this case, the skin of the upper abdomen may be pulled upwards and

the excess skin trimmed and tucked under the breasts. The amount of skin that can

be removed in this way is limited as it is not optimal to have the scar extend where

visible across the ribs between the breasts. For the right candidate, this procedure

can help solve the problem of upper abdominal skin excess.

The procedure is done under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Recovery is

simple and a binder is worn for several weeks. Approximate cost is $6,000 -8,000.
